Nottingham Forest could come up against Nuno Espirito Santo very soon as Premier League clubs add him to their managerial shortlists, sources have told Football Insider.

Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked overnight on 9 September after a breakdown in his relationship with Edu Gaspar and Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who moved swiftly to replace him with Ange Postecoglou.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Forest’s decision just three games into the new season may ultimately prove to be good news for one of their Premier League rivals.

Football Insider revealed on Monday that Marinakis and Nuno held “crisis talks” at the City Ground in the hours before his sacking, and the Portuguese won’t be short of offers for a quick return to the top-flight.

My sources have said that although Nuno’s style of play “isn’t everybody’s cup of tea”, its effective setup and ability to produce clear improvements have been on display at both Wolves and Nottingham Forest.

Sources have told Football Insider that clubs across the Premier League and Europe have placed Nuno high on the lists of replacements for their own managers, several of whom are already under pressure in the early stages of the campaign.

Simon Jordan spoke out to suggest that Nuno was the cause of his own downfall at Nottingham Forest after publicly discussing his soured relationships, but few other club owners are as volatile as Marinakis.

“Nuno Espirito Santo won’t struggle to find a return to football management”, I noted on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

“He’s definitely enhanced his reputation, [he] took them from relegation candidates to European football.

“His style of football is not everybody’s cup of tea because it’s quite defensive and playing on the counter-attack, but it’s effective.

“If any Premier League club is maybe planning to make a change in management, Nuno will be high up the list for a number of clubs.

“Clubs across Europe as well will be looking at the Portuguese, now that he’s free and available to work, having done such a good job at Forest.”

Sacked by Forest less than three months after signing a new contract until 2028, Nuno may be in no rush to return to the cut-throat world of Premier League management after taking the Reds to new heights.

The 51-year-old is far from the only manager in demand so early in the season, however, and Football Insider revealed that Brendan Rodgers is being eyed by Premier League clubs if he elects to leave Celtic.

With two managers who had been Europa League-bound potentially on the market, it remains to be seen which club blinks next in the hope that Nuno in particular can have a similar impact on their own fortunes.
