Sergio Reguilon could make a return to Premier League football soon after he was released by Tottenham upon the expiry of his contract in July.

Football Insider revealed in May that Reguilon could leave Tottenham with no contract talks held as he was no longer part of their plans for the future.

However, despite Thomas Frank’s decision to part ways with the 28-year-old, a number of Premier League clubs have him on their radar to bolster outside of the transfer window.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Reguilon is open to a return to English football despite having not yet found a club.

Reguilon is one of ten valuable free agents still available, and he has now been tipped to return to English football after just two months away.

Football Insider revealed in September 2024 that Tottenham would freeze Reguilon out of their plans, and he then made just six appearances all season.

His lack of recent game time following loan spells at Man United and Brentford is likely to be a concern, but injuries may force clubs to explore their options.

With a number of high-profile free agents still available, Premier League sides are closely monitoring the situation with their sights on potential improvements.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Yeah, obviously he’s had probably a disappointing couple of years, Reguilon, after he couldn’t establish himself in the Spurs team.

“He had a couple of loan spells away at Man United and Brentford, but again didn’t really rip up any trees on those loan moves.

“A lot will depend on whether any Premier League clubs are in desperate needs of reinforcements at the back due to injury issues.

“Reguilon might then figure on their wanted list because he is a free agent and would be an ideal option to add experience and cover at left-back.

“Being a free agent it would be a low-risk investment for any Premier League clubs because there would be no fee involved for him.”

Should any Premier League club be hit by an injury crisis or decide to search for defensive reinforcements, the Spaniard will be high on their list of targets.

Football Insider revealed on 16 September that Everton could be forced into the free agent market after suffering injuries in both full-back spots.

Vitalii Mykolenko picked up an injury on international duty, while new arrival Adam Aznou has yet to feature for the senior side due to ongoing issues.

James Garner has been filling in as a makeshift left-back, while Jake O’Brien has played on the right, raising questions about the depth in David Moyes‘ squad.

Should the Toffees suffer any further issues at full-back, Reguilon could emerge as a potential target given his availability as a free agent.

The Spaniard remains open to a number of options, with interest from abroad also likely, so if they plan to make a move, the Toffees may have to do so quickly.
