Tyler Dibling could be subject to a bidding war this summer after two Bundesliga clubs joined Everton in the hunt to sign him, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have told him about the latest developments on Dibling‘s future.

Dibling has emerged as a viable option for Everton in this summer’s transfer window with David Moyes in the market for new wingers, though the Scot has struggled to get his top targets over the line thus far.

Football Insider revealed on 2 August that Southampton are willing to accept bids in the region of £45–50million for Dibling this summer, a huge decrease on the £100m price tag they had quoted in January.

The relegated Saints could still stand to benefit from a bidding war though, as sources have told Football Insider that both Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also interested in the 19-year-old this summer.

Dibling is expected to leave Southampton this summer and Everton had identified him as an alternative to potential Manchester City’s Jack Grealish, but they’re unlikely to be top of the list of interested clubs.

Former Man United scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider that Everton can’t afford for their pursuit of Dibling to take up the majority of their transfer budget, particularly with European sides interested.

Speaking on the new Inside Track, O’Rourke said that while Southampton are reluctant to lose their star teenager this summer, cashing in on Dibling would be a wise move even if Everton can’t afford him.

“There’ll be a lot of interest in Dibling, not just from Premier League rivals but also abroad”, he told Football Insider.

“A lot of German clubs were looking at him; RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and others were showing a bit of interest in Dibling as well.

“I’m sure the player himself wants to play at the highest level possible to continue his progress, so if good offers do come in for Dibling, Southampton reluctantly might have to listen to them.

“The problem for Everton is, although they’re in the hunt for Dibling, other clubs might have more money to go out and spend on him, and that could see Everton miss out on him.

“Whoever does get Tyler Dibling is getting a real top player with huge potential.”

The signing of Bayern Munich left-back Adam Aznou on 29 July took Everton’s spending above £50m for the summer, and it’s unlikely that the Toffees would be able to spend a similar amount on just one player.

Although Dibling is seen as a younger and more viable alternative to Grealish, former CEO Keith Wyness has tipped Everton to complete a subsidised deal for the Man City winger this summer, likely via a loan.

Lyon’s exit-linked wideman Malick Fofana is another player who would be cheaper than Dibling, but it’s unclear if Everton can re-establish their pulling power in this summer’s window to complete a headline-grabbing, statement transfer.
