Will Osula’s future at Newcastle United could hinge on the form and fortunes of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have told him about Newcastle’s long-term plans for the striker.
Osula emerged as a target for Bayer Leverkusen and then Eintracht Frankfurt in the latter stages of the transfer window, but Newcastle were reluctant to sanction a deal despite signing Wissa at the 11th hour.
Football Insider revealed early on deadline day that Newcastle were willing to let Osula leave the club, but Frankfurt changing their offer from a permanent deal to a loan-to-buy scuppered the Dane’s move.
However, Football Insider sources have stated that Frankfurt and other interested clubs will keep tabs on how often Osula features for Newcastle, before looking to explore his availability again in January.
Sources have told Football Insider that Osula will be a core member of Newcastle’s squad this season despite their willingness to sell him in the summer, with a decision on his future set to be made ahead of the January window.

Football Insider revealed on 6 September that Frankfurt could look to re-open talks with Newcastle over a move for Osula in January, with the striker now third in the pecking order after Wissa and Woltemade.

Speaking on the new Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke stated that the months between now and January could see Osula become a key member of Eddie Howe‘s team, particularly if injuries strike at Newcastle.
“Osula will still have a role to play at Newcastle this season, he’ll be part of the first-team squad for most games”, he told Football Insider.
“Clubs monitoring how many games he’s played, between now and January, will see if there’s any possibility that he could be lured away from St James’ Park.
“A lot will depend on how Newcastle’s season is going – who is to say that there’s not injuries and he’s then needed again?
“There’s a lot of water to go under the bridge before we know if he could be on the move again in January.”

Alexander Isak‘s absence from the first-team picture before his eventual sale to Liverpool, and Anthony Gordon‘s red card against the same opponents, had opened up an unlikely spot in the team for Osula.
The Denmark international did score against Liverpool but failed to take his chance in Newcastle’s draw with Leeds United in their last match, a game which new signing Woltemade was sat in the stands for.
Woltemade’s £69million move from Stuttgart and the £55m spent to sign Wissa from Brentford have already swallowed up the £125m fee paid for Isak, but it remains to be seen which of the duo will be Newcastle’s first-choice number nine.
