Southampton supporters were shocked by the news that Mads Roerslev joined the Saints from Brentford on Thursday.
The right-back spent the second half of last season on loan with Wolfsburg, making seven appearances in the Bundesliga.
Before moving to Germany last January, Roerslev became a Brentford stalwart, making over 140 outings for the West London club.
The Denmark international helped the Bees win promotion to the Premier League by notching three assists in the 2020/21 Championship season, before going on to regularly feature in the top flight.
Will Still’s men will hope that Roerslev can add another promotion to his CV, as the Saints look to bounce back from the second tier at the first time of asking.
Meanwhile, Southampton drew 1-1 with Ipswich last time out on Sunday, 17 August, building on the strong start to the Championship they made by beating Wrexham on the opening weekend.
The Hampshire club take on Stoke City on Saturday, 23 August, and are vying to put an end to the Potters’ strong start to the new season.

However, Southampton supporters may be worried by the fact that Everton are interested in Tyler Dibling, who was one of the Saints’ best players in the Premier League last term.
Contrastingly, adding Roerslev to their ranks is a positive move in the transfer market from Still’s side amid their promotion push.
Meanwhile, Southampton are yet to receive a second bid from West Ham for Mateus Fernandes who, like Dibling, was a positive in an otherwise poor Premier League campaign in 2024/25.
But for now, Saints supporters are focusing on the news that Roerslev has agreed terms in Hampshire.

When Southampton officially announced the addition of Roerslev on 21 August, it was the first that many supporters had heard of the news.
One fan commented: “How on earth is the first mention of Roerslev and Southampton from the official club account.
