Southampton have opened preliminary talks to sign West Brom sensation Tom Fellows as Everton push hard to land Tyler Dibling, sources have told Football Insider.
The Championship big guns have lined up the winger, 22, as a replacement for Dibling should he complete a move to Merseyside.
Everton’s latest bid was worth £40million, including add-ons, but the Saints are seeking a higher fee for their 19-year-old sensation.
Everton had earlier lodged offers of around £27m and £35m for Dibling.
Southampton regard Fellows, who has also attracted interest from Everton, as a like-for-like replacement for their own prize asset.

Dibling was always expected to leave Southampton this summer, after the south coast side were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Whether the young winger makes the switch to Everton or opts for a move elsewhere, the Saints will need to replace him quickly to avoid any damage to their Championship promotion push.
Fellows racked up an impressive 14 league assists for West Brom last season, as well as chipping in with four goals during his 45 appearances.
The right-sided attacker has featured at England under-21 level and is very highly thought of at the Hawthorns.
Southampton manager Will Still needs a strong squad if his side are to bounce straight back to the Premier League next season, and if Dibling is to leave, Fellows could be the man to fill that void.

Meanwhile, Chuba Akpom has agreed a deal with Ipswich Town after rejecting an offer from Birmingham City, sources have told Football Insider.
The Ajax striker, 29, has held talks with both Championship clubs as he plots a return to English football.
Akpom has reached an agreement with Ipswich and is set to complete a move soon.
Birmingham are said to be “gutted” to have missed out on the former Arsenal and Middlesbrough star, who has an impressive track record in England’s second tier.
