'Speak to anyone': Journalist shares what people at Liverpool have been saying about Marc Guehi's failed move

Marc Guehi’s transfer to Liverpool was one of the biggest stories to emerge on deadline day.
Liverpool spent over £400million on improving their first-team squad this summer and, even though they’ve had an impressive transfer window, adding Guehi to the mix would have been the cherry on top of the cake.
Of course, Konate and Virgil van Dijk are still among the Reds’ ranks, but with the Frenchman’s contract situation hanging over his head, he hasn’t been at his best.
One of the main reasons why Guehi’s transfer would’ve been so impressive is that he would’ve only cost Liverpool £35million.

And, while speaking on the Sports Mole YouTube channel, journalist David Lynch shared how Liverpool actually felt about Guehi’s transfer collapsing.
“You speak to anyone at Liverpool last night, obviously, they will tell you that they’re big fans of the player, they like him, they wanted to get this deal done,” he said.
“So there’s disappointment there, but nobody can really make any promises about what’s going to happen next because it’s unbelievable, really, how quickly things change in football.
“It might seem like a no-brainer to get the deal done for January or maybe in the summer when you get him for free, and you give Palace more time to get a replacement in, but like I say, things change.”
Although Gary Lineker believes Guehi should stick it out at Crystal Palace and get a better deal for himself upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season, the Reds still think a deal can be made in January.
These are also the thoughts of Lynch, who has shared that the Reds still believe a “cheap” deal can be done in January.

“They still really like Guehi, there’s a hope there that he might be available for cheap in January, but I would not like to make any promise about that,” he said.
“[That is] other than to say that Liverpool like him at this moment.”
Of course, only time will tell what the future has in store, but for now, it feels likely that Guehi could become a Liverpool player in the winter transfer window.
