The fallout from Liverpool’s dramatic win over Bournemouth on Friday has largely centered around two things.
Firstly, there has been a real focus on what the Reds did wrong after they initially surrendered a two-goal lead at Anfield.
Liverpool’s vulnerabilities were exposed by Bournemouth, and the spotlight has fallen on the Reds’ shortcomings during the match.
Secondly, and more positively, Federico Chiesa has been earning plaudits for his late winner.
There have even been claims that Arne Slot has decided Chiesa is not for sale after seeing the Italian fire home a massive goal for Liverpool.
However, in amongst the delight over Chiesa’s impact, it has been somewhat overlooked that in turning to the No.
14 when he needed a goal, Slot has perhaps sealed the future of another Liverpool player.

Throughout the summer it had been expected that Chiesa would be leaving Liverpool.
As a result, many will have been surprised at seeing Slot bring on the Italy international on Friday.
Chiesa made only six Premier League appearances last term, often remaining as an unused substitute.

Harvey Elliott may have suffered a similar fate on plenty of occasions during 2024/25, but Slot often brought the Englishman on long before Chiesa.
With his team in need of a goal, the Liverpool head coach has looked to Elliott as a fairly regular impact substitute.

In that very situation with less than 10 minutes to play on Friday, Elliott would have been the obvious substitute.
But after Slot surprisingly – and successfully – chose Chiesa, it felt like a quiet acceptance that Elliott is perhaps going to be on his way over the next two weeks.
Despite the optics on show here, it is obviously not a given that Elliott will depart simply because Slot chose Chiesa instead.
However, over recent weeks it has started to look more likely that the 22-year-old is going.
RB Leipzig seemingly have the most concrete interest in Elliott, although there are question marks over whether the Bundesliga side can stump up the fee.
Elliott is a ‘special’ player, and if their valuation is not met, then Liverpool should have no hesitation in keeping him around the squad.
West Ham have been linked with Elliott and judging by their 3-0 loss against Sunderland on Saturday, they could do with him around.
With Slot favouring other options, this is definitely one to keep an eye on over the next two weeks.
