There is currently a ‘special’ youngster at Liverpool who is seriously going under the radar at the moment.

Liverpool’s academy graduates have been at the forefront of the club’s success this season. Without them Jurgen Klopp would never have been able to compete in so many competitions for so long.

They also played a key role in getting Liverpool’s only trophy of the season so far, coming on in the Carabao Cup final and completely outplaying Chelsea.

The likes of Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley have now become household names at Anfield. Meanwhile, Bobby Clark and Jayden Danns are also emerging on the cusp of the first team.

But there is someone else who is seriously going under the radar, and who caught the eye once again.

Why Lewis Koumas is going seriously under the radar at Liverpool

Unlike the aforementioned quartet, Koumas doesn’t seem to get as much attention. Even though he has been on Klopp’s radar since pre-season last summer.

Koumas showed in those pre-season cameos that he was a lively threat. He proved that even more so on his senior debut against Southampton in the FA Cup, scoring with his first shot at goal.

So far to date, that has been his only appearance in the first team. That might be the reason why he hasn’t gotten as much attention as the others.

However, more first team appearances will only be a matter of time for the 18-year-old. This season he has 16 goals and five assists in all competitions at all levels for Liverpool.

Since making his debut for the first team, he’s scored on his Wales U21 debut and got three goal contributions in four games for Liverpool’s U21 side.

Why Lewis Koumas is a special talent for Liverpool

Last night he was one of Liverpool’s best players on the pitch in the club’s U21 Premier League game against Sunderland.

Koumas scored Liverpool’s only goal of the game in a 2-1 defeat after brilliantly pressing his opponent to win the ball and slotting the ball cooly in the back of the net.

That was the type of goal Jurgen Klopp will have loved, and he definitely caught the Liverpool boss’ eyes. Klopp seems to rate Koumas really highly anyway. He described him as one of three academy players who were ‘special’ earlier this season.
