'Special': Luis Garcia says Liverpool now have a player who fans will pay extra to watch next season

Liverpool supporters have been getting excited at the prospect of signing Alexander Isak this summer.

The Reds saw a record-breaking bid rejected by Newcastle last week, but are expected to come back with a better offer soon.

The move has captured the imagination of Liverpool fans, who have been starved of a truly prolific No.

9 for a long while.

But Isak would perhaps not even be the most exciting arrival of the summer window at Anfield.

Liverpool surprisingly shelled out huge money to secure the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

He may have only played in friendly matches so far, but Wirtz has impressed everyone at Liverpool with what he’s been showing on the pitch.

And according to former Reds player Luis Garcia, the German is about to set the Premier League alight.

With all the furore surrounding Isak, it can be easy to forget that Liverpool have already broken the British transfer record once this summer.

It would be wrong to say that Wirtz’s arrival has gone under the radar, but perhaps it isn’t being appreciated enough just what a special signing he could be.

Garcia certainly is not overlooking it, though, and the Champions League winner has told ESPN that Wirtz is the kind of player who fans will pay extra to watch next season.

“The signing of Florian Wirtz brought something different to the club,” he said.

“Talking around to the people, to the fans, he’s a player who can bring you those moments of quality and technique that Firmino brought back in the day, players who can bring something different to the game.”

“People buy a ticket to see something different, and I think Florian arriving to Liverpool can give you that extra.

“The Premier League is something different [for Wirtz],” Garcia added.

“I know he has done a great job in the Bundesliga, but he needs to adapt to the intensity and battle of the Premier League and I’m looking forward to seeing if he can handle those moments.”

Liverpool fans are likely to get their very first glimpse of Wirtz on home soil this Monday as the Reds take on Athletic Bilbao at Anfield.

With less than two weeks to go until the new season begins, the 22-year-old is preparing to make his bow in the Premier League.

If he was not settled in already, then Monday should give him a real idea of what to expect.

It won’t be the usual crowd at Anfield, and fans will take advantage of the cheaper seats than they often pay to glimpse the Reds.

But whatever they have parted with to sit and enjoy the final pre-season friendly of the summer, it will all be worth it for Wirtz.
