Every summer window has one or two names that get talked about a little too much.
Some of it is real, some of it is just noise.
A club wants to sell, the media wants clicks, and suddenly the same player is “linked” with half of Europe.
For Liverpool fans, it’s nothing new.
When the club shows even slight interest in a player, the story tends to take off.
It’s even worse when that player is in a league where transfer stories are treated like sport itself.
In this case, Portugal.
One defender in particular has been heavily pushed for months.
Maybe even years.
And now, it looks like the buzz might finally mean something — though Liverpool aren’t the only ones watching.
21-year-old central defender from Sporting Lisbon Ousmane Diomande is the man in focus.
According to A Bola, “Liverpool , Arsenal and Manchester United , as well as Bayern Munich (interest dating back to January) have not lost sight of the centre-back and could make an offer in the coming days.”
The report claims Crystal Palace have already made contact to ask about the conditions of a deal.
There’s no offer yet, and there’s no confirmation of any direct move from Liverpool or Manchester United, but they are very much in the conversation.
Diomande joined Sporting from Danish club Midtjylland in January 2023 after a loan spell at Mafra, then in Ligue 2.
The deal cost Sporting €7.5 million, with a further €5 million in potential bonuses.
Since arriving, he has racked up 101 appearances for the club.
He has been a regular starter and continues to grow in value, delivering what has been the best stretch of his career so far.
Now, Sporting reportedly see this as the ideal time to cash in.
Sporting have been reportedly keen to sell Diomande for a while, and the Portuguese media have consistently pushed stories around him — perhaps more than with any other player currently in the league.
A Bola reports that Sporting want around €60 million, and that number has only gone up after Diomande’s strong season, which was “perhaps the most consistent campaign of his career.”
The paper suggests that one of the clubs named could soon make an offer, but stops short of saying who.
For Liverpool, who are looking to add depth in defence this summer, Diomande fits the profile.
The club may be quiet now — but staying “very attentive” usually means they’re just waiting for the right moment.
