Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his first goal for Leeds United in a much-needed 3-1 victory against Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

Goals have been an issue for the Peacocks, with Football Insider exclusively revealing on 15 September that Harry Wilson is open to a move to Leeds after a failed deadline day swoop.

Leeds are monitoring Man City’s Nico O’Reilly as the Whites consider bolstering their defence in the January transfer window as well.

Yet, despite Calvert-Lewin being blasted on Sky Sports for Leeds since his arrival, the Englishman finally got off the mark with a looping header at Molineux.

The Whites fell behind early in their crunch tie against Wolves, but were sparked back into life when the Englishman found the back of the net with a header to beat Jose Sa.

The former Everton striker caught the attention of ex-Liverpool forward Collymore, who compared the 28-year-old to Toffees legend Latchford in the manner of his goal.

Taking to X on 20 September, the former Aston Villa frontman said: “Calvert-Lewin with a Bob Latchford-esque header at Molineux.

1-1.”

The number nine has endured some torrid seasons in recent times after his emphatic 2020-21 campaign, which saw him bag 21 goals in 39 appearances at Everton.

Injuries and poor form forced the former Sheffield United frontman out of Merseyside in a bid to save his dwindling career, with Leeds taking the brave move.

At just 28 years old, age is on Calvert-Lewin’s side, and Daniel Farke has given him a golden opportunity to nail down a spot in the starting XI.

Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha have not been performing for the Peacocks, which has seen the German turn to the six-foot-two striker to salvage their tricky return to the Premier League.

If he can stay fit and in good form, the former Toffee could be a superb bit of business for the Yorkshire outfit after they signed him on a free agent.

Elland Road previously had its doubts over the questionable forward, but his strike against Wolves could be the start of a revival of his football career.

With seven points from five games, Leeds and Calvert-Lewin can be very happy.
