Reported Leeds United and Liverpool target Rodrigo De Paul won’t go anywhere for less than £35 million in the summer transfer window, his former Udinese coach Gianfranco Cinello has told Tuttomercatoweb.

How much does the complete midfielder cost in this day and age?

A man who operates as an attacking playmaker at club level, creating assist after assist in Serie A while adapting brilliantly to a tough-tackling defensive role on international duty?

Even Lionel Messi, the omnipotent captain of Argentina, has been left in awe by De Paul’s versatility and relentless endeavour.

According to someone who knows De Paul better than most, anyone interested in signing the former Valencia and Racing Club starlet this summer must be willing to stump up €40 million (£35 million).

“We know his qualities. I trained him for two years. He’s at a great level, physically strong and has improved as a personality, which he lacked when he arrived,” Cinello says of De Paul, who has produced six goals and seven assists for a mid-table Udinese side this season.

De Paul has been linked with Inter Milan and Juventus recently.

But Cinello believes that, with even Italy’s biggest clubs hit hard by the covid crisis, the Albiceleste ace is unlikely to leave Udinese for a Serie A rival.

“I have doubts he can go to an Italian team. In Italy there are no clubs that can afford him,” Cinello adds. “Udinese will not will lower the price, which starts at 40 million and maybe more.”

The Sun reports Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds are still in the race for a player who spent last summer batting his eyelashes in the direction of the West Yorkshire giants, that now-infamous one-word tweet now the stuff of legend at Elland Road.

TuttoUdinese, however, believes Liverpool are leading the race for De Paul.

An all-action 26-year-old who would make Gianni Alioski look like Dimitar Berbatov, De Paul certainly looks a good fit for both Jurgen Klopp and Marcelo Bielsa.
