Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg says Alisson is making ‘steady progress’ as the Brazilian continues his recovery from a calf injury.

“He has made steady progress, but it is difficult to say how long it will take or how it will progress.

Liverpool have made an excellent start to the new season, but could do with their main goalkeeper back as soon as possible with the intensity levels set to rise.

It needs time and we cannot look too far ahead, so we take each day as it comes, see how he feels, and then make progress from that.” The season is about to get busy for Liverpool, with Champions League and Carabao Cup games on the horizon for the Reds, and so the club would love for £90,000-a-week star Alisson (Spotrac) to return ASAP.

Achterberg said (club’s official website): “Ali has been working with Dave [Rydings] in the gym a lot to improve the strength and try to keep the fitness levels up.

The star has been sidelined since limping off in the club’s opening game against Norwich City, with summer signing Adrian having been deputising.

The club have not placed a time frame on the 26-year-old’s return, but one would imagine he isn’t too far away now.
