Liverpool starlet Stefan Bajcetic made a return to first team action during Liverpool’s 4-2 over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday at Anfield.

Many Liverpool fans are eagerly anticipating Stefan Bajcetic’s return after a prolonged absence due to injury.

The talented youngster had a breakthrough season in 2022/23, one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Reds.

This season, many were keen to see how the 19-year-old would progress in Klopp’s side.

However, he suffered an adductor injury in the summer that prevented him from joining the squad on their pre-season tour.

The versatile midfielder made a brief return to action for Liverpool’s Europa League group stage match against Austrian club LASK.

He also had a short stint off the bench in the Carabao Cup third-round match against Leicester City late last September.

But a further calf injury meant that the Liverpool staff stepped back to assess things.

He was given time to develop his body to match the intensity and vigor of the men’s football at the highest level.

Jurgen Klopp previously said of the Spanish teenager:

“Stefan’s quality, potential, talent, everybody could see and it’s incredible – what a player – but the body was not ready yet.”

But against Tottenham, he was able to finally feature.

He come off the bench for the last 25 minutes having played a game or two with the U21s prior to being thrust into Premier League action.

What did Stefan Bajcetic say about his return?

Speaking to liverpoolfc.com, the Spanish U21 international predictably revealed his happiness at returning to the first team fold, and his first senior action since September:

“It is good to be back to winning ways, and it’s always good as well to step on the pitch after a long time as well so yeah, a happy day!”

“It’s been a long time.

It’s good to be back.

I still need to improve a lot, still need to get my rhythm back and keep playing hopefully.”

“It was important to start with the U21s first to get my rhythm back a little bit,” he said.

“Because the Premier League is so quick!”

“It was good management by the club and me to play a bit with the U21s to get rhythm.

So I wanted to recover properly, get stronger in all my body, so that I would not get it back.

“Hopefully now, touch wood, it’s all good.”

He then went on to speak a bit on how Liverpool’s mindset was heading into the Spurs clash and reflecting on the team’s wobble that saw them fall out the title race:

“It was better than the last few weeks,” Stefan Bajcetic said.

“We had some time off to think about the situation and we thought we needed to win all the games that we have left.

They have very good players, quick players, and they had a strong bench as well.”
