Liverpool are preparing to send Stefan Bajcetic out on loan once again before the summer transfer window closes on September 1, with the Spain under-21 international seeking regular first-team football.

After Arne Slot’s arrival at Anfield last season, Bajcetic was initially dispatched to Red Bull Salzburg in August 2024 to gain experience in the Austrian Bundesliga.

The move reunited him with former Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders and promised Champions League exposure.

However, despite making 19 appearances (although only eight starts), he struggled to secure a consistent role and was recalled in January 2025.

Upon his return, Liverpool swiftly arranged a second loan to UD Las Palmas for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.

There, Bajcetic rediscovered his form in despite Las Palmas’ eventual relegation from La Liga.

And it would seem that Spain is calling for the 20-year-old midfielder once again.

Spanish outlet XCatalunya has reported that Girona are are very keen on taking Bajcetic on loan ahead of the transfer window deadline.

Girona manager Michel has given his full backing to sign the Liverpool midfielder, with the Catalan club now leading the race for his signature.

The Spanish coach believes Girona represents the “perfect setting” for Bajcetic to relaunch his career after a challenging period marred by injuries.

Michel particularly values the midfielder’s versatility, capable of operating as both a defensive midfielder and center-back—two positions where Girona urgently need reinforcement to compete effectively this season.

The Catalan outlet reports that Girona sporting director Quique Cárcel and his team are now working against the clock to finalize negotiations with Liverpool.

The main challenge will be staying ahead of other European clubs interested in the player, though Girona believe they hold a significant advantage in talks.

Competition for Bajcetic’s signature includes Valencia, Celta Vigo, and Real Betis, but Girona’s concrete interest and Michel’s public backing have positioned them as frontrunners.

The player himself reportedly favors a return to Spanish football.
