Liverpool are in a “sweet spot” after recently performing well on the pitch and in the transfer market.

Liverpool secured a last-gasp victory over Burnley on Sunday (14 September) following Mohamed Salah’s injury-time penalty.

Arne Slot’s side’s 1-0 victory at Turf Moor maintained their winning start to the season and their three-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Liverpool are looking to capitalise on every area at this moment in time.

Liverpool sold academy product Ben Gannon Doak to Bournemouth in the summer transfer window, with the deal worth up to £25m.

Elsewhere, Tyler Morton left Anfield for Lyon in a £13m deal, having also come through the Reds’ academy.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “The whole academy thing looks great on paper.

They’re winning in the transfer market.

They’re winning on the field.

“A lot of academies are spending a lot of money and not really delivering any players, so it’s still very hard, it’s still very challenging, and there’s still a lot of competition for players.”

Slot’s side are looking to retain their title after being crowned Premier League champions last season.

Liverpool were the biggest spenders across the summer transfer window after making several new additions.

The Reds side spent £446m after signing Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman.

Liverpool are now gearing up to play Atletico Madrid in their first Champions League game of the season before taking on Everton in their next Premier League outing.
