Liverpool have recruited young players better than rivals Everton in recent years after revealing new plans for their academy.

The Athletic reported on 4 September Liverpool are embarking on a £20million redevelopment of their academy.

The Reds’ owners Fenway Sport Group (FSG) view the plans as recognition of the “huge” contribution the academy has made to the club’s success in recent years.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Everton haven’t done anywhere near as well as Liverpool in attracting young players to the club.

Liverpool sold academy product Ben Gannon Doak to Bournemouth in the summer transfer window, with the deal worth up to £25m.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “Liverpool’s obviously got a good catchment area for footballers, and probably Everton have not done anywhere near as well in terms of attracting top youngsters in the way that Liverpool have.

“I think the thing with Liverpool that you can say is they’ve had the combination of not only attracting players that have made it in the first team, but they’ve sold on as well in the way that City have.

“But it’s a huge investment to do that.

City’s investment in their academy is enormous, and obviously it pays well if it works and if you can sell multiple players per annum.

If it was that easy, everybody would do it.”

Slot has continued to give young players a chance in the first team this season, with Rio Ngumoha scoring the winning goal against Newcastle United last month.

Liverpool were the biggest spenders across the summer transfer window after making several new additions.
