Bernardo Silva could join Jose Mourinho at Benfica as he’s “likely” to leave Manchester City next summer.

Silva reportedly has a contract waiting for him at Benfica – where Mourinho has just been appointed as the new manager – once the attacking midfielder’s deal with Pep Guardiola’s side runs out in June 2026.

However, former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider he believes it could be “the end of the road” for the Portugal international at the Etihad Stadium.

The 31-year-old, who Guardiola appointed as the new Man City captain this season, then moved to the Etihad for £43million from the Ligue 1 side in 2017.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Silva’s contract situation, Borson said: “I think he’ll go.

I think it feels like the end of an era for a number of players at City, as we’ve seen this summer.

“I know it’s possible he stays for a year or two, but I think probably it will be a move possibly to Portugal depending on what happens with Mourinho and Benfica.

“Pep may well decide that he wants to keep him, but cost-wise and just the change of the era, I think it could be the end of the road.”

Silva has made 413 appearances for Man City during his eight-year spell at the Etihad, including six outings so far this season.

Guardiola revamped his squad in the recent summer transfer window after letting some of his senior players leave the club.
