Liverpool could finalise a cut-price deal for Newcastle United star Alexander Isak next week.

Isak has emerged as Liverpool’s top target as they look to strengthen their attacking options further before the transfer window closes on 1 September. 

Arne Slot’s side have seen a bid worth £110million plus add-ons rejected for the striker, with Newcastle valuing him at around £150million. 

Football Insider revealed on 11 August Newcastle have no intention of selling Isak unless they can find a top-class replacement before the window closes.

Liverpool are expected to make a new offer for Isak, but they could have to wait until after their game against Newcastle on 25 August to get the deal over the line.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “I guess we’ve got to a point now where I think probably most likely, if you were betting on it, you’d say Liverpool put forward a deal that’s sort of £125million plus a load of add-ons, some easy and some not easy, and it gets done after the Newcastle v Liverpool game and he joins Liverpool.

“But it just depends on the hardball that Newcastle want to play as an organisation as much as anything. 

“I do think Liverpool are in a good position in respect of the player because he’s made it very difficult for Newcastle.

“I think if we’d have looked at it at the start of the summer, you’d have said Liverpool will have to pay close to £150million. 

“If he does end up going now, I think they have successfully chipped off £10-15million of his fee.

“As I say, I think it’s most likely that he goes, but I don’t think it’s certain.”

In terms of a potential exit at Anfield, recruitment expert Mick Brown told Football Insider Liverpool are planning to sell Kostas Tsimikas before the end of the transfer window.
