20’s tragic death.

Jota was honoured by both sets of players, with a number of touching tributes being performed before the game got underway.

While sadness was the overriding feeling of the day, Liverpool fans still had reason to be excited about Sunday’s clash with Preston.

One of those was the first sighting of new signings Giorgi Mamardashvili, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong.

Florian Wirtz was rested by Arne Slot as he and a number of other high profile players ease into pre-season.

But Mamardashvili, Kerkez and Frimpong were all given 45 minutes, with former Red Stephen Warnock impressed by the new right-back in particular.

While Wirtz is easily the most exciting of Liverpool’s summer additions so far, Frimpong is still someone fans are looking forward to seeing.

The 24-year-old has a reputation for being a wonderfully quick player, and after coming on at right-back for the second-half on Sunday, supporters saw that in all its glory.

“You see the speed at which Frimpong got across to close him down.

Exceptionally quick player,” Warnock said on ITV after seeing the Dutchman diligently defend shortly after coming on.

Not long later came Frimpong’s moment of the match, as he raced back to nick the ball from Preston forward Daniel Jebbison in the centre circle.

“He’s quick, he’s very quick!” raved Warnock.

“Great recovery there from Frimpong to get back against Jebbison.

He thought he would pull away from the Liverpool defender.”

Aside from his pacy recovery burst, Frimpong was relatively quiet on his first outing since signing for Liverpool.

The Netherlands international came on alongside fellow new signing Kerkez at half-time, with the Hungarian a little more involved.

Liverpool fans were given a glimpse into the directness and pace of Kerkez throughout the second-half at Deepdale.

One outstanding moment from the 21-year-old saw him burst past a couple of Preston players before being fouled near the touchline.

There will be much more to come from this dynamic duo, but as a first sighting, it was enough to whet the appetite.
