Would the real Liverpool please stand up?

What on earth has happened to Jurgen Klopp’s side during these past few months? Everything and anything is going wrong for Liverpool.

That was proven when Everton won the Merseyside derby 2-0 on Wednesday night at Goodison Park to really stick the knife in when it comes to winning the Premier League.

At one point, this Liverpool side was pushing to win four trophies – The League Cup, FA Cup, Europa League and Premier League title.

Yet, fast forward to the present, and it’s highly likely that Klopp will walk out of the door at the end of the campaign with only one trophy in hand.

It’s all, understandably so, very deflating for supporters and many are questioning what has gone wrong. And where has it gone wrong?

Steve Nicol was pretty clear that it has ‘fallen apart’ and he decided to look towards the forward players, as he told ESPN.

The legendary defender singled out Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez – the duo had games to forget against Everton and, once again, played like they had rollerskates on.

Before the turn of the year, nearly everything was going right for the attacking duo, but now Nicol thinks they have ‘disappeared off the face of the earth’.

Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez’s finishing

“Mostly, in my opinion, it fell apart because, for some reason, the front players, particularly Salah and Nunez, have absolutely disappeared off the face of the earth,” said Nicol.

“We saw Nunez with a chance in the highlight. What we didn’t see was there was ball, he was standing at the top of the box, on his own, and there was a ball fired into him. All he had to do was take it and get a strike-off at goal.

“He completely miss-controlled it. He actually ended up salvaging it and putting it back to Mo Salah, who then put it 40 yards over the crossbar. That little passage just summed up what Liverpool have been going forward.”

Liverpool’s Premier League title chances

The Reds can now wave goodbye to any chance of becoming champions of England again. It’s a shame it might end up like this for Klopp because he deserves more.

Arsenal are leading the pack and they are three points clear of Liverpool and with a far better goal difference.

With Manchester City only one point behind Mikel Arteta’s men, but they have two games in hand.

With very few games remaining, not even a miracle would create the scenario of both Arsenal and Man City dropping points now because that’s what Klopp and his players need.
