Steve Parish is anticipating that Oliver Glasner will not sign a new long-term contract at Crystal Palace despite recent successes.

Despite triumphing over Premier League champions Liverpool in the Community Shield, coming into the new season there is more negativity than positivity around Selhurst Park.

Palace are fighting to hold on to club captain Marc Guehi amid reopening talks with Liverpool over a potential move this summer.

Moreover, Eberechi Eze is being chased by Tottenham as they try to replace the injured James Maddison before the window shut.

Greater concern for the long-term stability of the club is over the uncertain future of Glasner who could lead an exodus of departures before the end of the transfer window, especially with only one-year left on his contract.

According to The Standard (14 August), the Eagles Chairman is expecting the Austrian to turn down a long-term deal.

Talks had begun in the spring over a new deal but those negotiations have “not progressed” past an initial phase.

The Standard added that a “short or medium-term extension is more in line with what Palace would see as potentially feasible” as they look to keep the former Eintracht Frankfurt manager’s services.

Football Insider verdict

Whilst Parish has made it publicly aware he wants to keep the Austrian for many seasons to come, it is clear that the manager is not 100% confident in the current situation.

The lack of recruitment when it was desperately needed must have placed doubt in Glasner’s mind, a factor which any manager wants to have sorted before the start of any campaign.

Two signings is simply not good enough for a team which has been overperforming, they need reinforcements to aid with the incoming additions of Conference League fixtures.

Everything at Selhurst Park has been moving at snail speed this window and it looks increasingly likely the Eagles could tumble down the table.

Many of the other mid-table clubs have sought to strengthen or replace departing players such as Wolves letting go of Matheus Cunha only to bring in the highly-rated Jhon Arias.

Parish will need to look at himself hard in the mirror to decide if how he is currently managing the club will actually benefit the south London side in the long run.

As of now, if I was Glasner I definitely wouldn’t sign a new deal and offer my services to Europe’s top sides next year.
