Steven Gerrard would have walked into most teams during his prime, but he thinks otherwise.
The Reds’ current midfield is one of the best in the Premier League and although they sometimes go under the radar, they are the heartbeat of the side.
Ryan Gravenberch is the anchor, Alexis Mac Allister is the brains and Florian Wirtz is the provider, with this balance truly frightening.
However, one man who would have walked into this team and been the first name on the team sheet is Liverpool legend and scouser Steven Gerrard, with the former captain one of the best of the best.
He is one of the greatest to grace the Premier League and many teams tried to prise him away from Anfield in the past, but it was clear where his loyalties lay.
He really could have played for almost any side in world football, but Gerrard himself has admitted that there is one he believes he would not have been able to.

Gerrard not winning the Premier League really does feel like one of the biggest travesties in modern times, with his talent deserving of at least a couple.
But, even though he had offers from the likes of Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, all of whom were managed by Jose Mourinho at the time, he decided to stay put.

Gerrard himself even knew that he was good enough to play for anyone, as shown in a recent video posted by ESPN UK, but he does not believe he would have started if he ever signed for Barcelona.
When asked which teams he would have made the starting XI for in his prime, he said yes to the likes Manchester United, Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich, but not Barcelona.
“I’m not sure as I don’t think I’m their style of player, so maybe no,” he said when asked if he would start for the Spanish giants.

In their prime, they had the famous three of Sergio Busquets, Andreas Iniesta and Xavi, arguably the best midfield trio in the history of the sport.
So, perhaps Gerrard is right and he may not have been good enough to play for them, but if anyone was to break into that team ahead of them, you would have bet a lot on a prime ‘Stevie G’ to be the one to do it.
As mentioned, Liverpool’s current options in the middle of the park are one of the best in the league, but adding a prime Gerrard into the mix would make it sensational.
With Gravenberch sitting in behind, Gerrard would have the freedom of dominating the number eight role like he did on so many occasions for the Reds in his career.
And this time around, he would have world-class players to give the ball to, meaning his creative threat should be rewarded more often than it was in the past.
His long-range goals are also something the Reds have missed ever since he moved on, and with the scouser in the heart of Arne Slot’s team, he would be well on his way to winning a Premier League title at the very least.
