Steven Gerrard has backed the Rangers dressing room's campaign to bring former kitman Jim McAlister back to the Scottish side.
Lifelong Gers fan McAlister won his claim against the club for unfair dismissal in December, resulting in Ibrox chiefs being ordered to pay him £13,000.
Former SPFL star McAlister was brutally let go three years ago from his role as chief kitman, having joined Rangers in 2021, which hit him hard.
The Daily Record reports that captain James Tavernier and other influential figures around Ibrox are keen to see McAlister return to the role, even though he is currently kitman for the Scottish Football Association.
New manager Russell Martin and sporting director Kevin Thelwell are also believed to be open to the idea.
In his first return to Ibrox following his axing for a game against Hearts last year, former Rangers defender Leon Balogun shared a photo of him and McAlister posing post-match.
Balogun captioned the photo with a Union Jack flag and a blue heart emoji, writing: "Great to have you back home.
You are missed." Now, the Record reports that Gerrard, who rejected a return to Rangers earlier this year, has submitted a glowing reference to club bosses in an attempt to facilitate his return to the team.

An employment tribunal in Glasgow found Ibrox chiefs liable for McAlister’s “unfair dismissal”, saying they were in “breach of contract” over his departure.

McAlister, who grew up on the Isle of Bute, made over 350 appearances for Morton during two stints at Cappielow and also played for Hamilton, Dundee and Blackpool.
He spent two seasons in the Scottish top flight during a three-year stint with Dundee and won each of the three lower-league titles in Scotland.
However, in 2021, McAlister announced his sudden retirement from playing, with the club stating he was leaving "to pursue a career elsewhere.”
