Tottenham are unlikely to pursue a move to sign Al Hilal star Aleksandar Mitrovic in this transfer window, according to their former scout.

Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout at Man United and Blackburn and remains very well-connected at his former clubs, exclusively told Football Insider that Thomas Frank is considering backup options for Dominic Solanke.

Leeds United had been heavily linked with the 30-year-old, but are now closing in on signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin after a deal was agreed in principle.

Former Leeds and Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider on 8 August that Mitrovic could now leave Al Hilal after they signed Darwin Nunez from Liverpool.

The Whites’ pursuit of Calvert-Lewin had seemingly left the door open for Tottenham to move for Mitrovic, but they are targeting other options.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 10 August that Mitrovic’s “massive” wages could deter Premier League interest in the late stages of the transfer window.

Brown told Football Insider on 26 June that Mitrovic would be open to returning to England as Everton scouts have been keeping tabs on his progress.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that while there is interest in the striker, Spurs are unlikely to make a move.

“Thomas Frank wants to sign another striker,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve got Solanke up there who will be the first choice, but if he gets injured or something happens, they don’t want to have to rely on Richarlison.

“Mitrovic scores goals and he’s got a good track record in the Premier League.

“There isn’t an abundance of strikers available, so it’s difficult for Spurs to find somebody.

“So he’s been one that has been mentioned, but I would be surprised if they made a move for him, I think they’ll look at some of their other options.

“He’s been linked with Leeds as well, which I think would be a better move for him.

“I think he’s a bit of a risk, and teams like Leeds could be tempted to take that risk whereas Tottenham will want somebody more reliable and dependable.

“So for Tottenham, I think Mitrovic is a non-starter.”

Mitrovic is not the only player being linked with a late move to Tottenham this summer, as they remain strongly interested in Man City star Savinho.

Brown told Football Insider on 12 August that Savinho is keen to join Spurs as he would be offered the chance to play more regular first-team football.

The Brazil international is believed to have grown frustrated by his inconsistent role in Pep Guardiola’s team and has invited the opportunity to discuss a move.

Football Insider revealed on 11 August that Tottenham’s talks to sign Savinho are advancing with optimism that an agreement will soon be reached.
