The Reds romped towards the Premier League title last season in Arne Slot’s first season in charge, although the pressure this time around will be significantly higher.

Not only have they proven they are capable of winning it, but the transfers they have made this summer have been nothing short of sensational, even if they have spent almost £300m.

With this figure only expected to rise as well, the Reds will be the favourites to win the league again, especially if they do get Alexander Isak through the door before the window slams shut.

It might be very early to start making predictions, however, although people are already starting to do just that, with Stuart Pearce one of the first to have his say on who he thinks will win the Premier League next season.

It is all well and good referencing the signings Liverpool have made and why it makes them the favourites, but it should not go without saying that Manchester City and Arsenal have also strengthened significantly.

The Gunners have spent just shy of £200m this summer, while Man City have spent £130m, showing how everyone is trying to close the gap to the Reds.

However, Pearce is still confident that the Reds will get the job done because of Slot’s ability in particular.

Arne Slot came in last year and did a brilliant job, credit to Jurgen before him, it was a real good job to inherit,” Pearce told the Sports Mole YouTube channel.

“He has rekindled the likes of van Dijk, Salah got going again, Gravenberch was arguably the best midfielder in the league last season.

“I think they have also recruited well, if I had to pick the winner of the Premier League today, it would be Liverpool.”

The recruitment has not stopped yet either, and after selling the likes of Luis Diaz and maybe even Darwin Nunez, some big new acquisitions might be made.

Liverpool still seem a little short in certain areas of the pitch and that will worry fans, especially as they are going so big on a striker despite already buying one.

Centre-back is the real issue for the Reds as they only have three senior options, one of whom is very injury prone.

Once they sell Diaz too, they will only have Cody Gakpo as a left-winger, meaning they will either have to keep Federico Chiesa, which seems impossible at this stage, or promote 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha to a more prominent role.

They also still have three registered left-backs at the club, highlighting that there is still a lot to do before the new season starts and why retaining their title is not as nailed on as people are predicting.
