'Stuck in my head': Mohamed Salah admits there's one thing he's still desperate to achieve at Liverpool

The Egyptian is set to break some more records again next season.

Where Liverpool would be without Mohamed Salah nobody knows, but what is common knowledge is that he has helped turn the Reds into a winning machine.

Signed in 2017 for an initial fee of £36.5m, which was a club record at the time, the winger has gone on to heights not a single person could have imagined, and has firmly established himself as one of the world’s best.

He has also won almost everything available to him as well and continues to break record after record, with the 33-year-old showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.

However, despite such a successful Anfield career, there is still one thing he is yet to achieve and it has been bugging him for years.

But, if he is going to achieve it, now might be his best chance, although he will have to have it ‘stuck in his head’ a little while longer.

Winning the Ballon d’Or is the best individual achievement there is but, until recently, it was almost impossible to win it due to the dominance of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

However, now could be the Egyptian’s best chance to do so and, although he hasn’t always dreamed about winning it, he cannot stop thinking about it now.

“That wasn’t in my head when I was that young because, when you are playing in the streets of Egypt, you don’t see yourself winning the Ballon d’Or,” Salah told the Liverpool Echo.

“I think the first time it triggered something in me was when my agent told me I was able to make it.

I started to really think about it in Liverpool, not in Rome.

If I don’t win it, my career will also be really good.

“But I always have that image in my head; I just want to win it for my people, that thing is stuck in my head.”

If Salah were to win it, he would be only the second African player to ever do so, with the only one to date being George Weah of Liberia.

Salah is well and truly in the race for the Ballon d’Or but might just miss out to the likes of Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Ousmane Dembele.

African Player of the Year would be an award that many would think is more nailed on, but that does not seem the case either.

El Hadji Diouf believes it should be Achraf Hakimi instead and many others would agree, especially as he was so key in PSG’s treble-winning campaign.
