By now, most Liverpool fans are aware of VfB Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller.

It’s been reported that the Anfield chiefs have identified the German international as a potential midfield target for the summer transfer window, positioning the 24-year-old as a cost-effective and tactically versatile alternative to long-term target Martin Zubimendi.

With Zubimendi now set to join Arsenal after rejecting Liverpool in 2024, the Reds could pivot to Stiller – a player whose profile aligns perfectly with their recruitment strategy of acquiring young, technically gifted players with high resale potential.

As we can see from the German’s underlying figures, the midfielder excels at creating play from deep and has been a creative force for Stuttgart this season.

Angelo Stiller?

The 24-year-old has had an impressive campaign, chipping in with 4 goals and 9 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.

Stiller has a €36m  release clause in his contract which comes into play in 2026.

His performances have also earned him a place in Germany’s national team where he has 3 caps.

Slot’s preference for a “stable yet creative” midfield pivot makes Stiller an ideal candidate.

The Dutch manager has emphasized the need for a player who can “dictate tempo and break presses,” qualities Stiller honed under Sebastian Hoeness at Stuttgart.

His heat maps reveal a tendency to drift into right-half spaces, a trait that could complement Dominik Szoboszlai’s inverted movements and mitigate the creative void left by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure.

Last week, Stuttgarter Nachrichten – touted as a reliable source for Stuttgart-centric news – reported that Liverpool were ‘seriously interested’ in Angelo Stiller.

Now, the same outlet has spoken to Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth, who has now insisted that no formal contact for the 24-year-old has been made by the Anfield club:

“I don’t want to rule out the possibility of that happening at some point”, Wohlgemuth began of Stiller’s potential transfer away.

“There has been no direct or indirect contact with Liverpool regarding Angelo so far.”

He added:

“The fact is, however, that we are still firmly planning with him and, despite all the rumours, have no intention of starting the coming season without Angelo.”

“He developed exceptionally well and was able to showcase his abilities on the international stage.

“That naturally attracted attention.”

Securing Stiller would mark a strategic coup for Liverpool, blending fiscal responsibility with on-field ambition.

At 24, he embodies the club’s blueprint for sustainable success-a technically gifted, tactically adaptable midfielder poised to thrive in Slot’s system.
