Takumi Minamino hint may help Liverpool with summer transfer plan

It was the moment Takumi Minamino finally arrived at Liverpool.

Handed only his third Premier League start of the season the weekend before Christmas, Minamino took just three minutes to open the scoring at Crystal Palace with a clever finish.

But as Liverpool plan a continued evolution of their forward line this summer - expect departures and arrivals in the attacking unit - Minamino will hope he doesn't become the Reds' forgotten man: out of sight and out of mind.

"I loved Taki's game tonight, it was absolutely outstanding,” said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp afterwards.

Tellingly, the player didn't think twice.

Strange to recall, then, the excitement among Reds fans at Minamino being snapped up from Red Bull Salzburg in December 2019 mere weeks after impressing against Liverpool in the Champions League.

Fast forward less than five months, though, and matters are almost unrecognisable from that afternoon, Liverpool floundering in seventh place after a horror 2021 while Minamino has played only a further 51 minutes for the Reds.
