Sir Jim Ratcliffe now has a disgruntled manager on his hands after going against the Man United boss’ wishes this summer.
Football Insider understands that Amorim’s job is currently safe at Man United, having bounced back from an embarrassing defeat to Grimsby Town by beating Burnley at Old Trafford.
United were extremely active in the transfer window, signing some huge names, including Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo, while also getting rid of members of the “bomb squad”.
Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona until the end of the season, Antony signed permanently for Real Betis, while Jadon Sancho penned across the dotted line for Aston Villa on transfer deadline day.
Fans were keen for Andre Onana to follow them out the exit doors, while Kobbie Mainoo wanted to leave Man United on loan before the summer window slammed shut, a request which was denied.

Now, according to FootballTransfers (4 September), Amorim has been left fuming by the club’s hierarchy after a decision was made to block Mainoo’s loan exit this summer.

The manager was keen to bring in a midfielder of his choice, with Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher an option in the middle of the park, who was seen as a more tenacious and mobile alternative.
He was told, however, that no departure would be sanctioned before the deadline, and therefore, no replacement would be drafted in for the 2025/26 season.
Everton likely looked at signing Mainoo as another option for David Moyes, but no transfer materialised.
Despite featuring as a defensive midfielder, sometimes playing further forward due to his eye for goal, his main competition for the 2025/26 campaign is club captain Bruno Fernandes.
Speaking to the media, via ESPN (25 August), Amorim said: “He is fighting for the position now with Bruno.
So he just needs to fight for the position with Bruno in training.
Like it should be at Manchester United.”
Given that the Portuguese midfielder wears the captain’s armband, notched 37 goal contributions for the Red Devils last season, and is ultimately undroppable, Mainoo appears to have drawn the short straw.
Casemiro has not experienced the brightest start to the campaign, and with Manuel Ugarte yet to start in the Premier League this term, the 20-year-old might just have to be the second-best option in midfield.
