Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has suggested Jurgen Klopp may have been "hurt" watching the club's Premier League title procession.

And Crouch, 44, suggested there may be a part of the iconic Liverpool boss that wishes it was him who had ushered in that success after playing such a monumental role building the club back its present state.

"It must hurt him a little bit," said the former Reds frontman on That Peter Crouch Podcast.

You're like, 'Well I should be there'."

The suspicion is perhaps that much more likely to be true given Klopp, 57, had another year on his Liverpool contract at the time of his departure.

It was his decision to call time on his Merseyside tenure early after saying he was suffering from burnout and needed an extended break.

It was Klopp who brought Liverpool icons like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to Anfield, both of whom have confirmed they'll remain at the club beyond this season.

And that realisation could inspire one to move on themselves and create a new legacy, as Klopp could do with another club if recent reports are to be believed.

Speculation has suggested Klopp – who brought the Reds every major trophy during his time at the club – is growing antsy in his role as Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer and would like a return to coaching.

However, Klopp would have at least one familiar face in his midst after Trent Alexander-Arnold confirmed his Anfield exit this week, with a move to Real set to follow this summer.

Ancelotti, 65, has another year to run on his Real contract, and it would perhaps be a surprise to see him axed this summer.
