‘That is why’: Ben Foster gives verdict on why Liverpool will win the league over Arsenal

The Premier League title race is largely expected to be a three-horse race.

The Reds are sitting pretty at the top of the table after five games, with Arne Slot’s side the only team to gain maximum points so far.

This has already given them a boost in their attempt to retain the title, although there is still a very long way to go and plenty of teams still ready to fight.

One of these is Arsenal who, alongside Manchester City, are expected to be the team most likely to compete with Liverpool to win the league.

However, some question whether they have the know-how to do it, and former goalkeeper Ben Foster believes there is one reason why the Reds will pip them to the post.

Over the last few years, Arsenal have come within touching distance of the Premier League trophy, but they just cannot seem to get over the line.

Many question Mikel Arteta and whether he has the mentality to lead a team to the title, while others just do not believe they have the team to compete.

After this transfer window, however, the latter argument can be classed as null and void, and although Foster believes they have recruited well, he does not think they have as many world-class players as the likes of Liverpool.

“World class players are the ones who win Premier Leagues.

If you have enough world class players, you can win it.

If you haven’t then you will just fall short,” Foster said on his YouTube channel.

“Look at Liverpool, they have world class players dotted throughout the team, the spine of the team, and that is why they will probably win the Premier League.”

The Reds also have the experience of winning things, with this something that looks like it comes naturally to Arne Slot, with it clearly rubbing off on the players too.

Whether they get over the line this time is as good a guess as any, but Foster certainly makes a very valid point.

World-class has been turned into a very loose term that is thrown around far too often, but it should mean someone who consistently performs and is one of the best players in their position in the world.

It is hard to say how many Liverpool truly have, but they definitely have three in their ranks and there can be no debating that, these being Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

In terms of the spine Foster is on about, Alexis Mac Allister might also be considered too, and Ryan Gravenberch is certainly well on his way, but not quite yet.

Then the likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak would likely have been considered world-class at their previous clubs, suggesting Liverpool might have as many as six.
