Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben and PIF board member Jacobo Solis visited Isak at his residence in what the Daily Mail describes as a last-ditch attempt to convince the 25-year-old to abandon his Liverpool dreams and commit to staying at St James’ Park.
The meeting was sanctioned by Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who attended Monday night’s thrilling 3-2 defeat to Liverpool but was not personally involved in the home visit.
The high-level intervention comes as the transfer window enters its final week, with Isak having made his intentions crystal clear through an explosive Instagram statement last week.
The striker accused Newcastle of “broken promises” and declared that their “relationship cannot continue,” citing the club’s failure to honor verbal agreements made regarding his potential departure this summer.
But it seems we could get an end to the saga very soon.
David Ornstein, reporting in the Athletic’s Transfer Deal Sheet, has revealed that “some form of clarity” should come from the Alexander Isak saga this week:
“It was expected nothing firm would develop on his future until after Newcastle United hosted Liverpool last night — but now that is out of the way, some form of clarity should arrive in the coming days,” the transfer journalist asserted.
“Newcastle’s stance is well documented — they do not intend to sell the Sweden international — but their scouring of the market for potential reinforcements suggests that may yet change.”
“The pursuit of Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen continues, while other options will also be under consideration.
“If Newcastle manage to strengthen satisfactorily and Liverpool submit an offer for Isak that they deem suitable, it is possible a move will evolve before the cut-off.”
“But there are a lot of ‘ifs’ and no guarantees as to how it ends
This could go down to the wire.”
