Liverpool's Asia Tour: Key Features and Florian Wirtz's Debut
Liverpool has confirmed a 29-man squad for their pre-season tour of Asia, with trips to Japan and Hong Kong scheduled. The team will face Yokohama F. Marinos and AC Milan, with both fixtures available live on All Red Video. This tour is significant as it coincides with a new chapter under head coach Arne Slot and marks the first opportunity for fans to see record signing Florian Wirtz in action, assuming his fitness permits.
Wirtz, the German playmaker, has been training with the squad since his unveiling and is expected to be one of the standout players of the summer schedule. Alongside him, new signings Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong will aim to cement their places within the team. Additionally, Liverpool’s Under-15s academy squad will participate in the tour, including a match against the J.League U-15 Selection Team, underscoring the club’s commitment to youth development.
The tour also raises speculation about certain players potentially leaving the club. Notably, four first-team players—Federico Chiesa, Calvin Ramsay, Rhys Williams, and Stefan Bajcetic—have been excluded from the travelling party. Chiesa, who struggled with injuries last season and played just 466 minutes, is linked with a return to Serie A. Ramsay and Williams spent the previous season out on loan and appear unlikely to be in manager Slot’s future plans. Bajcetic’s omission is somewhat surprising given his prior involvement, but ongoing concerns over his fitness and form seem to have influenced the decision.
Fans are also eager to see whether other players such as Darwin Núñez, Luis Diaz, and Ben Doak will feature for the final time if transfers occur during the summer window. This tour offers an early glimpse into the squad's evolution as Liverpool prepares for the upcoming campaign.
