Today's round-up of the biggest stories around Liverpool Football Club from the last fortnight from the empireofthekop.com.Florian Wirtz completes £116m Liverpool move
Posted by Liam Togher
Football’s worst-kept secret was officially unveiled last Friday as, after weeks of speculation and an apparent ‘almost there’ stasis throughout the month of June, Liverpool confirmed the signing of Florian Wirtz.
The 22-year-old has become the Reds’ club-record signing in a transaction which could also set a British record of £116m if all add-ons are triggered – the Reds have agreed to pay £100m up front.

A year into his role as LFC sporting director, the capture of Wirtz marks an incredible statement coup by Richard Hughes, who – having already signed Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen – is wasting no time in strengthening the squad that Arne Slot led to Premier League glory in 2024/25.

Wirtz is about to be followed through the door at Anfield by Milos Kerkez, who flew in from Belgrade today to complete the formalities of his £40m transfer from Bournemouth, with a medical scheduled for Tuesday.
Hughes is about to oversee a second transfer for the Hungarian left-back, having been the sporting director who brought him to the Vitality Stadium two years ago.
The 21-year-old will become the Reds’ fourth signing in the space of a month and the second new full-back in Slot’s squad (after Frimpong).

Andy Robertson open to Atletico Madrid move
Posted by Farrell Keeling
Could it be a case of one-left back coming in and another going out at Anfield this summer?
Atletico Madrid have emerged as sustained suitors for Andy Robertson, viewing the long-serving Liverpool defender as their primary target for that area of the pitch, and the Scotland captain is seemingly keen on making the move to the Spanish capital.
With Kerkez about to join from Bournemouth, the 31-year-old could see his game-time diminished if he were to remain on Merseyside, but his departure would see the Premier League champions shorn of a crucial dressing room leader.

Not content with sealing a blockbuster £116m deal for Wirtz, Liverpool could reportedly be eyeing an opportunity to smash their club-record transfer fee for a second time this summer.
The Reds have reportedly lined up Alexander Isak as their ‘dream target’ and are seemingly willing to test the waters with Newcastle by making a megabucks offer, with the Magpie valuing the striker at a whopping £150m.
At present it’s difficult to imagine any such transaction coming off, and FSG would surely have to sell some players in order to keep some semblance of a balance to the club’s net financial outlay in the transfer window.
However, if it were to come off, what a statement it would represent by Liverpool!
