Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave Liverpool at the end of this season, with a move to Real Madrid on the cards.

Whilst not officially confirmed by either team, the England international joining the Spanish giants is the biggest open secret in football at the moment, with Alexander-Arnold on course to sign for Madrid after 20 years at Liverpool.

With Liverpool fans finding more ways to be angry with Alexander-Arnold, the transfer could not come any sooner for the 26-year-old right-back, who looks set to play for Madrid at this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

And Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has now given his verdict on what he thinks about Alexander-Arnold joining this summer, seemingly confirming the move in the process.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, the Madrid right-back admitted that he is excited about the competition Alexander-Arnold will bring to the position next season, with Carvajal missing most of the campaign due to an ACL injury.

Alexander-Arnold has always been viewed by Madrid as their long-term replacement for Carvajal, with Los Blancos getting their wish this summer by landing the Liverpool superstar on a free in a similar tactic that saw Kylian Mbappe join the Spanish giants last year.

And heading into the Club World Cup, Carvajal is excited to have new competition for his position in Alexander-Arnold, with the defender also revealing that the transfer is happening despite no official word from either club.

Carvajal said when asked about Alexander-Arnold joining: “It hasn’t been made official yet, but it seems so.

Fear [of competition]?

Competition improves both of us and brings out the best in each of us.”

Alexander-Arnold will be a big miss for Liverpool next season, with the England international one of the best fullbacks on the planet and a player who will go down in Premier League history as arguably the best right-back since the league’s inception.

Yet the Reds have moved fast to replace Alexander-Arnold, with Liverpool set to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £30m, with the transfer expected to be announced in the coming days.

With Conor Bradley also signing a new Liverpool contract, the Anfield side have been effective in plugging up the gaps Alexander-Arnold will leave behind this summer, with the right-back position looking healthy going into next season.
