Rhys Williams has told Henrie Kwushue on UMM’s official YouTube channel that his Liverpool teammate, Curtis Jones, is a ‘baller’.

The Liverpool defender shared that when he used to come through the ranks with Jones, he ‘wasn’t always the main player’, not the best.

But in recent seasons, Jones has climbed that ladder, and just like Trent Alexander-Arnold, he is a local boy making noises in the first team.

Williams was full of praise for his fellow academy product and the effort he has put in to become a first-team player under Jurgen Klopp.

On Curtis Jones being the English Iniesta: “Yes, I agree with that 100%,” said Williams. “The guy is a baller.

“We have been playing with each other since we were under 10’s, so to see the progress he has made, because he wasn’t always the main player in the age group. Or the best player.

“He has had to work hard to where he has got to. So, for that, respect to him. He is getting everything he deserves.”

Jones has this great arrogance and confidence to his game which allows him to stroll in the midfield like he owns it.

During pressure moments for the Reds, the penalty shootout win against Arsenal, his goal against Everton, he has stepped up and done the business.

The attack-minded midfielder was offered healthy minutes by Klopp last season and it will be interesting to see if that now increases.

There is a void in Liverpool’s midfield after the departure of Gini Wijnaldum and it would be fitting if Jones replaced the Dutchman.
