Liverpool have joined Premier League rivals Arsenal in the race to sign Real Madrid forward Rodrygo this summer.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu.
He has been instrumental for Los Blancos over the past five seasons, featuring in 270 appearances and scoring 68 goals across all competitions and helping the club win three La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues.
Rodrygo was part of the Madrid squad, which suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup.
The Brazilian was benched for five of Madrid’s six matches at the tournament.
Speaking at a post-match press conference, Madrid manager Xabi Alonso said: “These are match decisions.
“The way the match was going, we needed another profile?
There have been no decisions for the future
“We haven’t rotated too much in this Club World Cup and the context will be different in the future.”
Madrid are reportedly open to cashing in on a player who could demand a fee upwards of €80million (£69m).
It is reported that Arne Slot is an admirer of the Brazilian and is driving the club’s interest in the winger who can operate on either flank.
According to Eduardo Burgos of Diario AS, Rodrygo’s agent, Pini Zahavi, is working on the deal to bring the Brazilian to Merseyside this summer.
Bayern Munich are also monitoring his situation and would be willing to make a huge offer for the versatile forward if they miss out on Liverpool’s Luis Diaz.
