In their first match of the 2025-26 Premier League season, the Eagles proved to be a tough test for the Blues as their compact structure frustrated the hosts.

Amid links to Tottenham Eberechi Eze netted the first goal only for it to be disallowed due to club captain Guehi being within one metre of the Chelsea wall.

Liverpool have been targeting the signing of Guehi with the Englishman’s contract set to expire at the end of this season.

In reality, the 25-year-old walked down the tunnel not due to being annoyed by his manager, but, in reality, to “settle an anti-doping test”.

This was simply a “miscommunication” rather than a “standoff” with both Glasner and Guehi reported to have a “strong relationship” despite the “mix-up”.

From afar, it is understandable that fans, pundits and neutrals all could interpret the England international’s marching off the pitch as a sign of discontent given his persistence links to join Liverpool.

Yet, one thing that separates Guehi from the likes of Alexander Isak, or even Yoane Wissa to that extent, is his application and attitude to keep playing for the club he is contracted to.

The Swede and the Congolese’s decisions to go on strike amid the chance to move away is nothing compared to the compassion shown by the former Chelsea academy graduate.

The 25-year-old has always maintained a level-head, even when he was linked with Newcastle last summer, ensuring to let his football do the talking on the pitch rather than cause a commotion.

Moreover, I’m sure the Eagle wants to leave Selhurst Park in the best of circumstances by securing a decent transfer fee to help the club rebuild in his wake, given his imperative nature to the team.

This misunderstanding clearly shows the Englishman is a calm and sensible athlete who will bide his team when it comes to leaving the club.

Whether it is this summer or the next one, the ex-Swansea City defender will continue to sweat blood and tears for his beloved Palace.
