Nick Woltemade was impressive on his Premier League debut, but came off early during Newcastle United’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Woltemade signed for Newcastle in a club-record £64m deal, late in the transfer window from Bundesliga club Stuttgart.

Due to an injury to Newcastle’s other summer addition up front, Yoane Wissa, Woltemade started up front for Eddie Howe’s side against Wolves.

Woltemade impressed Newcastle legend Alan Shearer scoring the only goal of the game with a powerful header.

Woltemade came off in the 65th minute for younger forward William Osula, and the reason for his substitution has now been revealed.

Sky Sports’ reporter Keith Downie revealed that the striker had requested to be taken off with his reason discussed in a post-match interview.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Woltemade said: “It felt amazing.

If you win the game it’s more important too.
