Alexander Isak’s reasoning behind not handing in an official transfer request at Newcastle has been explained as his saga continues into the latter stages of the summer window.
Isak remains a Newcastle player as it stands, but looks to have no future at the club as he tries to force a move to Liverpool from St James’ Park.
The Swedish international striker has shone for the Magpies in the last few years, with 23 goals and six assists last season to fire them to a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League and glory in the Carabao Cup.

It was reported on 15 July that Liverpool had made contact with Newcastle to gauge their willingness to sell Isak this summer, and he has made it clear that he wants to make the move to Anfield, but the Reds are yet to offer a big enough bid for the Magpies to sanction his sale.
Liverpool’s first bid for Isak was rejected by Newcastle, who were unwilling to let him go for a package totalling £120million, but despite wanting away, the Swedish striker is still yet to submit an official transfer request, and the reason why has now been explained.
The 25-year-old’s transfer saga has waged on for close to a month now, but a breakthrough has still not been found with Liverpool yet to send a second, more suitable offer to Newcastle for his services.
Former Reds and Scotland midfielder, Don Hutchison, took to X on Tuesday (12 August) to explain why he believes Isak is yet to hand in an official transfer request, saying: “If it’s not about the money.
Put in a written transfer request.

“Doing that means you give up all the money owed to move on….The reason why they haven’t is they want the money from Newcastle and the move + money from Liverpool.”
Hutchison is of the belief that Isak and his agent are each after more money from both clubs, and so he has not handed in a request as that would bring the transfer fee down and would breach the terms of his Magpies contract, in doing so meaning he would likely not be entitled to contractual rewards like signing-on fees and loyalty bonuses.
Football Insider verdict
Newcastle’s recent successes under Howe have been headed by the firepower of their Swedish international striker, who has netted over 20 goals in each of his previous two league campaigns.
Isak has understandably been untouchable in the transfer market as far as Newcastle are concerned this summer, but any bid that reaches £150m, considering the £63m [BBC] they spent to sign him in 2022, will surely now be accepted due to their circumstances.

Newcastle’s owners will not be bullied by Liverpool this summer, and even given that Isak is looking to leave St James’ Park, they should only sell for what they feel is right rather than be lowballed by the Reds due to him being unsettled and refusing to play.
The Swede currently has three years left on his contract, so the Magpies do not have to sell him by any means this summer, but if a bid of £150m comes in, then that is too good to turn down for pretty much any player on the planet, and he is no exception.
