RB Leipzig have intensified their pursuit of Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott, buoyed by the playmaker’s standout performances at the recent U21 European Championship.
It came off the back of a season where he played very little under Arne Slot.
The harsh reality of Elliott’s situation became crystal clear under Arne Slot’s management last season, with the Dutchman making just two Premier League starts available to the attacking midfielder.
Furthermore, the 22-year-old made those starts after the Premier League had already been wrapped up.
Elliott managed only 826 minutes of game time across all competitions in 2024-25, a dramatic reduction from the 2,776 minutes he accumulated during Jurgen Klopp’s final season.
The former Fulham man claimed the Player of the Tournament award over the summer as England defended their title, finishing the tournament as the Young Lions leading scorer with five goals and two assists in six matches.
RB Leipzig have identified Elliott as the ideal successor to Xavi Simons, whose imminent departure to Chelsea has left a significant creative void in their midfield ranks.
Financial terms remain under discussion, with Liverpool reportedly seeking a fee in the region of €45–55 million, potentially including a buy-back clause.
Leipzig believe they have the resources to meet those demands, especially once Simons’ sale to Chelsea is finalized for an estimated €70 million.
Meanwhile, German outlet BILD have reported while Leipzig’s director of football Marcel Schäfer has headed negotiations, Klopp has personally lent his support to the transfer talks.
The Liverpool legend, who oversaw Elliott’s development at Anfield, is believed to be leveraging his influence at both clubs to facilitate a deal that benefits all parties.
DaveOCKOP.com reported earlier this week that Leipzig are expected to make an offer imminently.
Elliott is open to the idea of a new challenge in the Bundesliga?
He sees it as an ideal opportunity to earn a regular spot in England squads with the World Cup rapidly approaching in 2026.
