'The word is...' - Source: Man United's Ruben Amorim sack decision revealed

Fri 19 September 2025 9:51, UK

Man United have made their firm decision on the future of Ruben Amorim amid continued calls for his dismissal at Old Trafford.

Former United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 15 September that Man United chiefs are losing patience with Amorim and his methods.

Meanwhile, following Man United’s 3-0 defeat to Man City, pressure on the manager has ramped up yet again with fans and club legends questioning his position.

However, as I explained on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, United are unlikely to sack Amorim as things stand and want to give him time to improve.

There is recognition that results have not been good enough, but the club hierarchy are keen to stick with the man they pushed to bring in just 10 months ago.

Brown told Football Insider on 7 September that Amorim’s position at Man United is under threat and key clashes against Man City and Chelsea could prove decisive.

Following the defeat against City, the Portuguese now has the worst win percentage of any Old Trafford boss post-World War II.

Pressure on his position is continuing to grow, with the club aware of his continued shortcomings, but they are not expected to rush into any decision regarding his future.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “The pressure is growing on Amorim, there’s no getting away from that after another disappointing performance in the Manchester derby.

“But the word is that Amorim’s job is safe at Man United right now, the hierarchy are still backing him as the man to turn around their fortunes.

“He’s now 10 months into the job having joined mid-way through last season, but his record is no good, it’s the worst record since World War II for a Man United manager.

“31 points from 31 games in charge, with 16 defeats in that time, it’s just not good enough, but the club went big to bring Amorim in, so they’re going to stick with their man right now.

“Amorim was blunt after the Man City match as well, insisting he won’t change his methods, he’s not panicking and will stick to his system, so he’s steadfast in what he believes in.

“It’s a big few weeks coming up for him though, because results will dictate his long-term future at Man United, and they need results, there’s no getting away from that.

“They’re 14th in the league table after four games, with just one win from those four games, but they’re not in any rush to sack Amorim right now and they want to give him time.”

Man United players have been backed to turn on Amorim as pressure continues to build on the manager’s position both inside and outside of Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, stars have been stunned by Amorim’s treatment of Kobbie Mainoo, raising question marks in the dressing room about the manager’s influence.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that Amorim is pushing Mainoo out of Man United with his lack of playing time this season widely questioned.

Away from Mainoo’s future, though, there have been doubts about whether the manager’s insistence on a set style of play is helping or hindering his players.

The likes of Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo‘s roles have been called into question, with players now beginning to turn against their boss.
