Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions this season in a year that not many supporters expected from the Reds.

Arne Slot was appointed as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement as the Dutch manager blew all expectations out of the water by winning the Premier League by ten points and making it to the Carabao Cup final, with Liverpool by far the best team in England this season.

With Arsenal and Manchester City having off years and looking to make a big comeback next season, though, Liverpool know that they will have to adapt and change going into the new campaign if they’re to reclaim their Premier League title.

And here are three things Liverpool must do if they want to maintain their status as English champions ahead of what could be an incredibly difficult season for the Merseyside giants.

The main thing Liverpool must address in the off-season is improving the overall quality of the squad, and current rumours seem to suggest that the Reds are doing just that with the transfer window opening in the coming days.

Liverpool are close to signing Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen as the Reds continue to increase their interest in Milos Kerkez, with the Anfield side also eyeing a new striker to lead the line for next season.

Getting new key signings through the door and integrated as soon as possible is huge for a club looking to challenge for any piece of silverware, and with Liverpool seemingly doing this with three huge names already, Slot and his team are already on track to reclaim the Premier League title next season.

Premier League champions have been burned before in the following seasons by failing to change their tactics, resulting in getting caught out by opposing teams and leading to dismal title reclaim challenges, and this can’t happen at Liverpool in the new campaign.

Whilst Slot didn’t change much at Liverpool tactically, the tweaks are noticeable with the naked eye, with the Reds now more cautious and conservative compared to Klopp’s style of football, though explosive attacking patterns are still very much part of the game plan.

And with Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving Liverpool this summer, Slot knows he will have to adapt the Anfield side once again to facilitate the English defender’s departure and the new faces that will come to Merseyside in the coming weeks, with a new game plan potentially being worked on as we speak.

As mentioned, Slot didn’t do too much to change Liverpool’s style compared to what fans have seen over the years with Klopp, but if there was one thing that supporters were left frustrated about, it was the Dutchman’s reluctance to rotate.

Ten Liverpool players played over 3,000 minutes of football in all competitions, whilst the likes of Joe Gomez, Wataru Endo and Harvey Elliott didn’t crack over 1,000 minutes played, with Federico Chiesa not even playing over 500 minutes in his first year with the Reds.

Indeed, it’s clear that Slot has a group of players that he trusts more than others in the Liverpool squad, and that will need to change if the Dutch manager is to stop his team from being hit with fatigue following a year where major injuries were avoided.
