With seven players signed and just as many sold during a busy summer transfer window so far at Liverpool, there is some concern the turnover has been too high at Anfield.

For a squad who were able to go four games in May without a victory and still win the Premier League title by 10 points, it's a fair stance to adopt.

However, the numbers for a club who have traditionally thought that less is more in the window in recent years are skewed somewhat by the arrival of three goalkeepers in Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman, who will all start the season behind current first choice Alisson Becker.

That being said, Arne Slot is still attempting to integrate a new full-back pairing in Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez alongside a new No.10 in Florian Wirtz and striker Hugo Ekitike.

Liverpool have paid out around £320m in what has been the biggest spending transfer window in their history and with more targets desired in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak and Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, that figure may eventually skirt the edges of a scarcely believable figure of a half billion before the September 1 deadline.

"It’s been an active summer," former Liverpool striker Michael Owen tells the ECHO, via 247Bet.

I fancied Liverpool to win the league again this season.

The only question is whether you can make that many changes and everything still moves smoothly."

The decision to recruit a new right-back was almost forced upon Liverpool after Trent Alexander-Arnold left for Real Madrid at the end of his contract, and the Reds moved quickly to trigger Jeremie Frimpong's £29m release clause at Bayer Leverkusen.

That was followed by his die Werkself team-mate Florian Wirtz, who joined for a club-record £116m in June after the champions fought off competition from both Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

Kerkez was a long-standing £40m target from Bournemouth, who had been earmarked to come in jostle with the experienced and dependable Andy Robertson, who is now in his ninth season at Anfield, before Ekitike's deal was confirmed at £79m from Eintracht Frankfurt in late July.

To offset the big-spending summer, Liverpool have raised around £220m in sales, with Alexander-Arnold fetching £10m to join Real Madrid a month early and in time for the Club World Cup.

All these changes and they’re still at least a couple of players away from having the final squad they want."

The departures of Diaz and Nunez means Slot has headed into the new campaign as a defending champion with four senior players for his three-man attack in Ekitike, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa, while teenage winger Rio Ngumoha will provide back up.

Interest in wantaway Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak remains but that situation is unlikely to resolve itself either way until after the transfer deadline of September 1.

While the noisy furore continues over Isak's future, Ekitike - who himself was a target for the Magpies earlier this summer - has made an encouraging start to Liverpool life, scoring two well-taken strikes against Crystal Palace in the Community Shield and Friday's 4-2 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League opener.

The France Under-21 international has looked sharp so far, combining power and poise up top and Owen has been impressed by what's he's seen in the early going, he reveals in an exclusive chat with the ECHO.

"Yeah, [Ekitike has settled] really well," Owen says.
