Newcastle United have been told there is one saving grace about Yoane Wissa’s knee injury which limits the damage it will have on the team.
Wissa completed a deadline-day move to Newcastle from Brentford, ending a long-running and controversial saga.
The 29-year-old made his desire to leave the West London side clear, with the Bees eventually relenting and accepting an offer for the attacker.
However, before he could play a single game for his new club, Wissa sustained a knee injury while on international duty with DR Congo.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that it will not have as much of an impact on Newcastle as it might appear.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that due to the international break at the beginning of next month, Wissa won’t miss as many games for Newcastle as he would have if it had been a regular Premier League schedule.
At first, it was feared that the DR Congo international had damaged his ACL, but after scans, it was revealed that he will only be out for around six weeks.

Wyness added that it is a huge blow, but the timing of the international break has mitigated the damage.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s a huge blow, but actually not as bad as we first thought.
“They thought it was an ACL, and it could have been the whole season.
An international break will come within that time though, so will hopefully mitigate the damage slightly.
It is never great news when a new signing gets injured so early.
It’s so disappointing for Newcastle, just as I thought they were starting to show some signs of life.
“It’s football and that’s what we’ve got to face.
But yes, it’s not great news for Newcastle for sure, but it could have been a lot worse.”
Meanwhile, Tino Livramento is set to be offered a new contract by Newcastle as they try to fend off interest from Manchester City, sources have told Football Insider.

Man City identified Livramento as their first-choice right-back target early in the summer transfer window, and are still interested despite failing to get a deal done before the deadline.
Newcastle are desperate to keep Livramento as a long-term pillar of Eddie Howe‘s backline, and are now taking steps to do so.
The Magpies are set to offer the defender a new deal, and sources have said that there is confidence that he will commit his future to the club.
