Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has admitted that he targeted Liverpool’s two full-backs as a weakness before the game last night, in his comments to AS Sport.

Madrid ran out 3-1 winners over Liverpool yesterday and they attacked with real menace throughout.

Los Blancos were far more direct than usual, with Toni Kroos continuously picking out balls over the Liverpool defence.

With speed demons stationed on either wing, Vinicius Junior and Marco Asensio kept getting in behind the Reds’ backline.

And Zidane admits that he felt Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson were both there to be got at.

“Liverpool’s full-backs are very offensive,” he said. “There was an order to look for long balls behind them when we recovered the ball.”

Zidane’s plan worked to perfection, but it didn’t make happy viewing for Liverpool supporters.

The comments will only add fuel to the suggestions that Alexander-Arnold can be got at by the elite teams too.

Alexander-Arnold has lost his place in the England team and would have been looking to prove his critics wrong last night.

But the Liverpool full-back badly struggled, with the defensive side of his game often exposed, by Madrid’s attacking quality.
