Liverpool may have spent big already this summer but they are not afraid of doing it once again.

It is no secret that the Reds want a striker this summer and they are certainly not short of options, although they may need to start acting quickly.

Liverpool have been consistently linked with a handful of names, but with the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen soon to be snapped up, their options are starting to run thin.

A striker was needed before the departure of Darwin Nunez anyway, but with the Uruguayan set to leave, it becomes even more of a necessity.

There is one player in particular who Liverpool have been huge admirers of this summer and he could very well take the number nine shirt, with the Reds said to have him in their sights.

After the failure of Nunez, Liverpool are in desperate need of their next striker to work out, hence why they are taking their time.

Hugo Ekitike is one name consistently linked, not just to the Reds but other Premier League clubs as well, although Eintracht Frankfurt’s high asking price was putting most off from signing him.

However, according to journalist Dean Jones on his patreon, rumours suggest that he could be a Liverpool plan in the near future.

“There is fresh suspicion that Hugo Ekitike is in Liverpool’s sights,” Jones said.

“Eintracht Frankfurt are sticking to their 100million Euros valuation of the player, but are running out of clubs who would be willing to pay it.”

The Reds have spent almost £200m already this summer, but it looks as if they do not mind going big again, although a striker is the department in which they want to do it.

The 23-year-old has also attracted interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, but Jones’ latest update indicates that Liverpool are in pole position for his signature.

If Liverpool are willing to spend big on a player, they are usually pretty confident he will work out, but as proven by Nunez, this is not always the case.

The Reds have to be careful that they do not make the same mistake with Ekitike as, although he seems a good fit, they need to ensure the price is fair.

The Frenchman certainly knows where the back of the net is and he also suits Liverpool’s system as he likes to drift out to the left at points.

He is good with the ball in the air and at his feet, although he is certainly not the finished product, hence why it is a risky move.

However, with the options in the market limited, they may have to take the gamble and just hope it pays off in the end.
