Liverpool were confirmed Premier League champions on Sunday with Arne Slot’s side finally getting the job done.

A thumping 5-1 win at Anfield secured the title for the Reds with Liverpool winning their second-ever Premier League trophy, with the Merseyside giants now level with Manchester United once again when it comes to total leagues.

With the Premier League wrapped up so early, focus is now the summer transfer window, with Liverpool eyeing as many as five new signings as Slot looks to overhaul his squad despite being so dominant in the title race this season.

And Paul Scholes has now suggested how many signings Liverpool could make in the transfer window this summer.

Writing for TNT Sport, the pundit made the lofty suggestion that Liverpool could need as many as six new signings in the market, with the Reds in need of improvements in virtually every area of the pitch if they’re to challenge for the title again next season.

Scholes said about Liverpool’s transfer plans: “I think they need to improve defensively.

Obviously, if Trent goes, they might need cover for Conor Bradley.

I think they need a left-back and although I think Andy Robertson has been brilliant for Liverpool, there were times this year where you thought that could be a weakness.

I think Slot would want a holding midfield player.

“I know Ryan Gravenberch has been very good but if he got injured, they’ll need some major back-up in there.

Also, I don’t think Federico Chiesa will be there next year so I think they might need at least two players up top although I do think they’ve got the best forwards in the league anyway.”

Whilst six signings might seem excessive for Liverpool this summer, Scholes has a good point when it comes to virtually every single recommendation, with a lot of work needed in the squad if the Reds want to retain their title.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pending move to Real Madrid will leave a huge void in the squad for next season, whilst Darwin Nunez’s potential exit from Liverpool hints towards the English champions spending big on a new striker.

Indeed, this summer is shaping up to be a big one for Liverpool, and fans can expect plenty of movement between now and the end of the transfer window in what could be an exciting few months for the Anfield side.
